WATERLOO REGION — A young girl was struck and killed by a tractor as it backed up in rural Woolwich Township in Waterloo Region.
Police say a 41-year-old man was operating the tractor when the incident occurred on the morning of Nov. 7.
Police and emergency services responded around 10 a.m. to the site in the vicinity of Sandy Hills Drive and Arthur Street North, an area surrounded by farm fields.
The child, described only as “young,” was transported to an out-of-region hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Traffic Services Unit of Waterloo Regional Police assisted with the investigation.
The deceased girl is the second young child to die in a farm machinery accident in 2022 in Ontario. Another child was killed Aug. 23 at a farm, west of Peterborough and north of Omemee, after being run over by a skid steer loader.
