OTTAWA — Ontario farmers pulled in total cash receipts of almost $23.5 billion in 2025, up 3.6 % from 2024, according to the latest figures from Statistics Canada. Of course, this is gross revenue that doesn’t take into account rising expenses on the other side of a farmer’s ledger.
StatCan previously reported that Ontario producers’ net farm incomes, after expenses, fell almost 28 % in 2024, the most recent year for net-income data.
The Feb. 26 release of ‘farm cash receipts’ includes cash income from agricultural commodity production as well as government program payments in 2025.
Crops were the top revenue-generating commodity with more than $11.9 billion in Ontario farm cash receipts last year, down 2.3 % from almost $12.2 billion a year earlier.
Livestock and livestock products accounted for almost $11 billion of Ontario farm cash receipts, up 10.7 % from just over $9.9 billion in 2024.
Nationally, Canadian farmers collected cash receipts of almost $101.4 billion in 2025, up 3.4 % from just over $98 billion in 2024.
Canadian farmers didn’t collect as much program money, dropping 18.4 % but rising 6.7 % in Ontario.
Looking at subsets in Ontario here is how six commodities fared in 2025:
Cattle & Calves: +24.4 % in cash receipts — This was the biggest driver of growth in Ontario, jumping from $2.41 billion to $2.99 billion.
Hogs: +13.3 % in cash receipts
Greenhouse Vegetables: +6.3 % in cash receipts
Dairy (Unprocessed Milk): +1.5 % in cash receipts, remaining stable as the second-largest individual commodity in the province.
Cannabis: -7.4 % in cash receipts, continuing a downward trend
Soybeans: -9.5 % in cash receipts
Corn: -11.8 % in cash receipts
