GREY COUNTY — Two concrete workers died when scaffolding collapsed inside a silo under construction at a grain elevator farm business just outside Owen Sound in Western Ontario earlier this month.
Those killed in the Oct. 3 incident worked for Wilhelm Concrete, a Stratford-based company specializing in silo construction and restoration. They were part of a crew building a silo at Sharedon Farms.
No other workers were injured, according to the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, which is investigating. The ministry says it has issued eight requirements on Wilhelm Concrete and two on Sharedon Farms
Sharedon Farms is owned and operated by the Curry family, who got their start in 1980. They erected their first grain dryer bin in 2001 and expanded into commercial elevator operations in 2011.
The deaths are the fourth and fifth on-farm farm-related fatalities in Ontario this year.
