Great Lakes Grain foresees the average Ontario corn yield will reach record highs this harvest season, coming in at 173.3 bushels per acre.
According to OMAFRA, the previous high for corn was 164 bu/ac set in 2010. The five-year Ontario average is 154.4 bu/ac. OMAFRA is estimating a 157.9 bu/ac corn yield and a 42.9 bu/ac soybean yield.
After completing a 10-day crop tour of 650 fields, Great Lakes Grain, a partnership between GROWMARK and AGRIS Cooperative, reported that soybean producers would see a more modest 45.4 bu/ac.
Former Ontario Federation of Agriculture president Mark Wales told CTV News Kitchener that a lot of farmers will yield about 150 bu/ac of corn and there could be record soybean yields of parts of Eastern Ontario.
Statistics Canada predicts an Ontario corn yield of 166.7 bu/ac and a soybean yield of 46.2 bu/ac.
