OTTAWA — François Latour’s custom 80-furrow plow is fabbed up and ready for action Aug. 22 in the latest world record attempt organized by the Casselman carpenter and vintage farm equipment fan.
A team of three large tractors will pull the 80-foot-wide plow at the Lafleche family farm in St-Albert at 4 p.m. The spectacle should be enough to earn recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records — the third ag-related record spearheaded by Latour in the Eastern Ontario community in a decade. Previously, he organized the world’s largest single gathering of working threshing machines in 2015 and 2019.
The event at 1776 Route 700 West coincides with the Clarence-Rockland plowing match. Admission is $20 per person; children 12 and under enter free. Other attractions include square-dancing tractors (11 a.m. and 3 p.m.), go-karts, antique equipment displays, a pig roast (5 p.m.) and live music (8 p.m.)
