WINCHESTER — Dairy farmers Marissa and Ben Noort became proud parents for a second time with the arrival of a baby boy at a very newsworthy time — 20:24 on Jan.1, 2024.
Their son, Everett, was the first child born at Winchester District Memorial Hospital in 2024, making him the celebrated Baby New Year for the Eastern Ontario institution.
His big sister, Eloise, born in 2022, was also reported to be happy and excited at the family’s new addition.
“She didn’t want to have her afternoon nap without her baby brother in the same room,” Marissa said.
“Thank you to all the staff, nurses and Dr. Rivington,” Ben said. “We forget some of the names but everyone was great!”
The young couple, who were married in 2021, live on the rural Winchester farm where Ben grew up, and where they farm today with his parents, Derrick and Janet Noort.
They’re among the many parents in the region who have availed themselves of the well respected maternity and obstetrical services at the local hospital. Thousands of babies have taken their first breaths at Winchester in its 75 years of operation (an anniversary marked in December). A record 796 babies were born at the hospital in 2021.
