Electricity bills have increased more than 50 per cent since 2001 in Ontario, according to a Fraser Institute report. The increase was largely due to the Green Energy Act of 2009 which enforced the use of renewable energy wind turbines and solar panels.
The provincial government has tried to soften this financial blow by decreasing the overall cost of electricity by moving the burden from the individual consumer to the taxpayer and to Ontario’s public debt. Therefore, taxes of tomorrow will pay for the subsidies of today.
