BAYHAM TOWNSHIP — A fire on a fruit farm last month destroyed a storage facility and caused almost $3 million in damage.
Almost 50 firefighters were on the scene battling the massive blaze, said Bayham fire chief Randy White.
The fire at Martin’s Family Fruit Farm at Bayham Township, destroyed the entire facility, though firefighters did manage to save an outbuilding. But there were simply too many flammable materials inside the main storage building, White said.
The cause of the March 20 fire is undetermined, said White, since the fire destroyed the building so completely it would be impossible to find clues.
The building was insured, though White didn’t know to what degree.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious, and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office will not be investigating. Calls to Martin’s Family Fruit Farm by Farmers Forum were not returned.
