You can tell that Avia Eek loves this time of year by the the enthusiasm in her tweets. She posted these online photos of onion transplants that arrived April 29 for planting at Eek Farms in the Holland Marsh, north of Toronto. She announced that the Holland Marsh this year celebrates 100 years since draining began in the former swamp. The project was completed in 1930. The land was then settled by 18 Dutch farm families who began turning the former bog into a market garden. The low-lying rich soil is now home to 125 farms over 7,000 acres. Eek Farms is a commercial carrot and onion grower.
