OXFORD COUNTY Three new cases of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) were found on Ontario pig farms in February, bringing the number of 2015 cases up to seven. This is a big decrease from February 2014 when 19 cases were reported. As of press time March 5, there have been 76 cases reported in Ontario since PEDV was first discovered on a farm in January 2014. The disease which causes watery diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration and can kill 50 to 100 per cent of young pigs was found on a farrow-to-wean farm in Norfolk County on Feb. 5, a finisher farm in Perth County on Feb. 6, and a farrow-to-finish farm in Oxford County. |
