ST. ALBERT Depending on who you talk to, theres anywhere from 500 to 1,000 people living in this quaint hamlet southeast of Ottawa. Since the Feb. 2013 fire, St. Albert Cheese Co-op factory staff have used office space at the local bank, the Catholic church, and until the new offices are ready this month, the admin staff is using two classrooms at the Catholic elementary school around the corner. Theyre down the hall from Grade 6. Perks include a chalkboard in each room but they dont get to go out for recess. The new cheese factory has already been producing cheese for six months and curds 50 per cent of the business are set to double pre-fire sales in the first year. The new factory is a gem, spacious and inviting. It includes a large diner and speciality food and cheese shop. Theres a catwalk with large windows to watch cheese as its being made and a history room with historical photos. |
