RENFREW — A beef cow sold for $30,000, with the Enright Farms and Vos Vegas Farms’ production sale exceeding expectations, said Sean Enright.
About 200 people made the trek to Renfrew on Halloween to bid on beef cattle, embryos and semen. The last sale from the two farms was three years ago.
“We held off for three years as we needed time to build our herds and wanted to be able to offer a much larger group of cattle where the quality stayed consistent from top to bottom,” said Enright.
The sale “took a lot of numbers out of our herd,” he said, adding that it will take a few years to build up quantity and quality again before they can hold the next sale.
Soo Line Annie K 1094 was the top seller, going for $30,000 to Shady Brook Angus from Leoma, Tennessee and Sweetgum Angus Farm from Lexington, Alabama.
EF Vos Annie K 16A was bought by Eubanks Cattle Company from Danville, Indiana for $22,000. Another five cows sold for at least $10,000 each.
A flush of Vos Vegas Queen of Hearts sold for $10,000 to Eby Ranch in Emporia, Kansas, while two straws of semen from Dameron First Class sold for $16,500 per straw to Mark Ray from Gilsburg, Illinois.
In total, the sale grossed $387,600, with the 48 lots averaging $8,075.
The next sale is planned for 2017.
