After three years under a COVID pandemic scare and lockdown, the Canadian government is discovering that Canadians are more likely to question COVID vaccines.
They have great reason to. The government was wrong so many times.
In particular, parents are more likely now than before the pandemic to question their children’s vaccination, says federal Department of Health research. In fact, “Immunization rates have declined since COVID-19,” said an in-house report.
Here are some of the reasons why parents are not vaccinating their child for COVID or anything else:
• Concern of side effects (42 %)
• Vaccines could cause allergic reactions (29 %)
• Vaccines not being tested enough (29 %)
• Don’t trust the pharmaceutical industry (28 %).
• Don’t trust the government (20 %)
Comparing the pre-COVID with post-COVID mindset, 42 % of parents now fear “vaccines cause side effects,” compared to 24 % before COVID. Now 31 % of parents said they are “more concerned” about vaccines, compared to 14 % pre-COVID. Also, 72 % of parents now “accept all recommended vaccines,” compared to 82 % pre-COVID.
Findings were based on questionnaires with 1,228 parents of children under six. The health department paid $112,794 for the survey by Ekos Research Associates.
Public Health Agency data show only 40 % of children under 12 were fully vaccinated against COVID.
