WATERLOO — Ontario’s first outbreak of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus since January has hit a Waterloo Region pork producer.
Swine Health Ontario reported the outbreak on May 3.
Often fatal to newborn piglets under 7 to 10 days of age, the virus — first identified in Ontario in 2014 — does not affect any other species, including humans, and is not a food safety issue.
