OTTAWA — Ontario soybeans have set an unofficial yield record, according to Statistics Canada’s production of principal field crops report released in late November. The report also had corn as the third-highest corn yield ever.
StatCan reported that soybeans had an average yield of 51.4 bushels per acre. That is up from 45.6 bu/ac in 2017 and breaks the record of 48.3 bu/ac set in 2012.
Corn growers averaged 166 bu/ac, said StatCan, down slightly from 167 bu/ac in 2017. The record is 169 bu/ac, set in 2015.
While these are high numbers, they are not yet official as there were still crops in the ground into December that could still affect the final numbers.
