KEMPTVILLE — Manure will be the hot topic on Valentine’s Day in Kemptville — the only Eastern Ontario site on the provincial ‘Manure Tour.’
The free Feb. 14 conference at the North Grenville Community Centre will help farmers get the most out of their manure at a time of soaring fertilizer prices. A panel of farmers, manure contractors, and OMAFRA’s Christine Brown will discuss subjects like the application rate, timing and placement of manure. Excursions are also planned to area farms to check out a new on-farm digester and manure spreading and handling equipment.
The Ontario Manure Tour is sponsored by Farm & Food Care Ontario, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and run by the Ontario and Professional Agri-Contractors Association. It’s a follow-up to a recently released 3-part video series on Manure Innovation, now available online.
In addition to Kemptville, the conference series is coming to Moorefield (Feb. 2) and Dashwood (Feb. 8). All in-person dates (including Kemptville) are scheduled 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include a free lunch.
