OTTAWA — A 43-year-old Jamaican migrant worker was killed Aug. 12 when the tractor he was driving slid down an embankment and rolled over.
Ernest Williamson was working on a Norfolk County farm when the accident occurred. He was pinned under the tractor and pronounced dead at the scene. The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
There have now been nine on-farm, farm-related deaths in Ontario this year. Four of those killed were children. Eight of the deaths were in Western Ontario.
Ontario saw a record low of four on-farm, farm related fatalities for all of 2016. Between 2012 and 2016, there was an average of 10 on-farm, farm-related deaths.
The worst year was 2013 with 19 fatalities.
