By Tom Collins SYRACUSE The New York Farm Show will showcase a new hay merger at its Feb. 26-28 show. The 30th annual New York Farm Show at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse will include a robotic milker display, daily beef seminars, forestry workshops and about 420 exhibitors. Tickets are $5. But the biggest attraction this year will likely be the Italian company Roc bringing its new hay merger, which is a giant hay rake that can place 30 feet of cut hay into windrows. Roc offers several types of mergers, including the $150,000 RT 1220, the largest merger in the world. The merger lifts hay to a conveyor belt to create a windrow, whereas other machines drag the crop on the ground to the windrow. The Roc merger system causes less damage to hay, fewer rocks and dirt inside the windrow, and less hay loss, the company says. About 1,000 Ontario farmers trek south of the border to the see U.S. show each year. Overall attendance is about 25,000. For more, visit newyorkfarmshow.com. |
