QUEEN’S PARK — The Ontario government announced last month that it’s raising the ethanol mandate in gasoline to 15 per cent, up from 10 per cent, by 2030.
Producers won’t see the boost right away, as increases start in 2025. But the ethanol mandate, which requires gasoline providers in the province to blend in ethanol for lower-quality fuels, has been a great boon for corn demand. The ethanol sector already buys as much as 40 per cent of Ontario corn.
