GUELPH A new app from the Grain Farmers of Ontario is designed to compare the net profitability and fertility requirements for different rotations. The free Cash Cropper app for BlackBerry, Android, and Apple phones and tablets was released in early September and can be found at www.cashcropper.ca. Farmers can enter their location, soil type, crop rotation, tillage, nitrogen source, expected yield and price, and other information, and the app will do a comparison of crop rotations and the expected net return in dollar per acre for the different crops. “Although the yield responses used in this app are based on an extensive, long-term database, there are no guarantees,” reads the app description. “But if youre using this app, youre likely a farmer and already know that the only guarantee in producing a crop is that youre at the mercy of Mother Nature.” |
