The Ontario Federation of Agriculture is pushing the federal government to commit $100 million in the 2019 budget for rural broadband internet access in Ontario.
President Keith Currie told the London Free Press that “one hundred million is a good start,” alongside the $180 million already committed jointly by Ontario and Ottawa.
Oxford Warden David Mayberry, a member of the SouthWestern Integrated Fibre Technology group, which is working to get high-speed internet into rural areas, told the newspaper that they plan to connect 3.5 million people in Southwestern Ontario by early 2019. “We’re finalizing the agreement (of $180 million) so the money can begin to flow,” he said.
