A Peterborough-area hobby sheep farmer is facing 33 counts of animal cruelty after an OSPCA investigation earlier this year.
An April investigation into 56-year-old Sandra Reed-Byers’ Norwood-area farm, 30 minutes east of Peterborough, ended with the OSPCA giving orders to comply with legally required standards of care for animals. The OSPCA removed 27 emaciated animals, including a horse, a goat, three dogs, and 22 sheep from the farm on May 30 after the orders were not followed.
It’s not the first time Reed-Byers has come under the OSPCA’s microscope. Back in 2016, her horse ranch, Whisper Ridge Ranch, was the focus of an OSPCA investigation after allegations that horses there had been neglected and starved to death. The OSPCA did not lay any charges.
