PERTH COUNTY — A 41-year-old Norwich man faces multiple charges after the trailer he was driving was engulfed in flames while it was filled with cows. Two of the cows were killed.
On October 3, 2022, at approximately 10:46 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a livestock trailer engulfed in flames travelling on Perth Road 107 in the Township of Perth East.
The trailer was hauling 69 cows, two suffered severe burn wounds, two were deceased. Approximately 35 cows were freed from the trailer.
Police arrived after the vehicle had stopped. The Norwich resident was arrested and charged with causing damage or injury to animal while being driven, obstructing a Peace Officer, two counts of operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failing to surrender a CVOR certificate, fail to surrender a completed daily inspection report, failing to surrender permit for motor vehicle and failing to surrender a driver’s licence.
