ORMOND — A North Dundas family is planning to rebuild after a blaze broke out at Ayrporte Farms in early October, destroying the barn and killing half the dairy herd. Farmers Ian and Tracy Porteous were away at the time but their children and a neighbour managed to get half the herd out of the tie-stall barn.
Last month the farm sent out a message of thanks to the firefighters who contained the blaze, and to neighbouring farmers who dropped what they were doing to pick up animals and host them at their own farms.
On a hopeful note, the message Porteous family ended their message saying: “We are looking forward to the day we bring our ladies back home to their new facility.”
