NORFOLK: OPP to face off with international farm workers in first-ever soccer match
NORFOLK — A historic community-building event is set to take place this Sunday, as members of the Norfolk County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) square off in a first-ever ever soccer match against international farm workers living and working in the area.
The event, scheduled for Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 660 West Street in Simcoe, is being organized in partnership with Catholic Community Services of York Region (CCSYR) and the Norfolk County OPP as part of a larger Community Day initiative aimed at breaking down barriers and strengthening relationships between international farm workers and the broader community.
Event highlights include:
- Kickoff at 2:00 p.m. with half-hour soccer matches between participating farms
- Second annual Farm-to-Farm Tug of War
- Emergency vehicle displays and local organization booths
- Food trucks and the return of the Jerk Chicken Eating Contest
- Feature match: a combined team of international workers vs. Norfolk County OPP at 6:00 p.m.
Over eight local farms will be represented, with three players from each farm joining forces to form a team that will challenge the OPP in the event’s finale.
The celebration runs from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public.
