Do you know a beef or sheep farmer with an outstanding record of pasture management?
There’s still time to nominate them for a Mapleseed Pasture Award, an effort led by the seed company in association with the Beef Farmers of Ontario, the Ontario Sheep Farmers and the Ontario Forage Council.
In addition to the recognition, winners of the respective beef pasture and sheep pasture categories collect a $250 prize from Mapleseed. They also get their choice of Mapleseed forage mix in a 25 kg bag.
Nomination deadline for the 2022 beef pasture award is Nov. 30, 2021, with the winner set to be announced this February. An Oct. 1, 2021, deadline applies for the 2021 sheep pasture category; that recipient will be announced later in October at the Ontario Sheep Farmers annual meeting.
The 2021 beef pasture award was awarded earlier this year: Denise and Jeff Byers of MurrayHill Farm in Durham Region were honoured at the Beef Farmers of Ontario annual general meeting last February.
