TORONTO A $450-million class action lawsuit, against two pesticide companies for killing honeybees, now has 135 beekeepers on board, with another 57 showing interest. Most beekeepers have stayed away. There are 8,700 beekeepers in Canada, including 3,800 in Ontario. The lawsuit claims Bayer CropScience and Syngenta were negligent in their design, distribution, and sale of the insecticide-treated corn and soybean seeds, which includes most seeds planted in Ontario. The lawsuit has not been tested in court. |
