After 15 years of Liberal rule, Ontario farmers were overwhelmingly in favour of the Progressive Conservative’s tidal wave of victory on June 7.
Many took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the election. Below is a sampling of how many farmers felt that day.
For the first time in 15 years, the rural side will actually have a voice.
—Mike Pasztor, cash crop farmer, Norfolk County
Bye-bye Ont Ag Minister. Let’s get real representation.
— Moe Chauvin, cash crop farmers, Essex County
Ontario’s Dairy Farmers congratulate Doug Ford on his victory. The PC Party — and all other major parties — have long been supporters of our farmers and supply management. We are pleased this will continue.
—Dairy Farmers of Ontario
Good Lord, Lib and NDP voters really have no clue what is happening in Ont. if they think buck a beer is what won the election for the PCs!! Um, maybe it was gross over spending and wasted $$$!!
—BGF Kevin, dairy and cash crop farmer, Dufferin County
Congratulations to Ontario’s newly elected leader, and Ontario PC Party on their election as the next provincial gov’t. We look forward to working together to build the key elements of Producing Prosperity in Ontario — let’s spread economic opportunities across Ontario
—Ontario Federation of Agriculture
Premier Ford, cup champion Ovi, has a nice ring to it!
—Justin Velthuis, dairy and cash crop farmer, Carleton County

Thank God Ontario has a brain.
—Mike Van Gorp, pig farmer, Lambton County
The biggest surprise for me tonight is how the hell the Liberals managed enough support to hang on to 7 seats. One would’ve been too many in my humble opinion
—Dan Alyea, cash crop farmer, Oxford County
Ontario’s open for business baby!
—Andy Pasztor, cash crop farmer, Elgin County
A lot of bitching and moaning on social media tonight from those realizing their free ride is over for at least the next 4 years.
—Mike Pasztor, cash crop farmer, Norfolk County
Going from a majority to a defunct non-status party all in one election term should be fair warning to all elected officials. I imagine there are some uncomfortable folks in Ottawa right now! Trudeau is next.
—Shawn Schill, grain elevator owner, Wellington County
Well, way to go Ontario . . . Now we can’t mock the Americans for electing Trump. We just did it too.
—Lee Brien, sheep farmer, Grenville County
