Most Canadians are consuming less than one serving of meat a day, despite Canada’s Food Guide recommending as many as three per day for an adult male.
That’s according to market-research company Ipsos, which found in a September 2017 survey of 1,000 Canadians that 72 per cent of respondents had three or fewer servings of meat per week, although 75 per cent said they understood the role of meat in a healthy diet.
Analysis from Statistics Canada found that a significant number of women consume less than the recommended number of servings for meat and alternatives, putting them at risk of inadequate intake of iron, zinc and vitamin B12, Health Canada noted.
