A British Columbia dairy farmer went out to the barn the morning of Aug. 1 to blood spattered on the barn floor and a missing five-day-old calf from its pen.
At first, the owners of Eagle Acres Dairy thought a coyote might have taken the calf during the night. But since they had recently installed video cameras, they checked the footage and found something more dastardly.
A man and woman walked into the barn in the middle of the night and shot a calf four to six times with arrows. As the calf was still alive, the man pulled out one of the arrows from the calf and stabbed it about 15 times until it died. The couple then loaded the dead calf into the trunk of a high-end SUV and drove away.
The video was not able to get a licence plate number. RCMP is investigating.
The farmers say the calf’s mother was not in the barn during the attack and that the calf would have had no fear of humans.
