WEST NIPISSING — An SUV travelling late at night struck one of eight bison believed to have escaped a West Nipissing farm, prompting the local OPP detachment to warn about the animals’ presence on Highway 64 between Field and Sturgeon Falls. While no person was injured in the Dec. 16 collision, the bison was put down by local police. The involved vehicle was severely damaged and required a tow.
West Nipissing OPP advise motorists to use extreme caution in that area and to not approach any of the animals. Seven remain on the loose.
“Bison are wild animals. Even though they look docile, bison are dangerous, unpredictable, and may charge without warning.”
Contact the Nipissing West OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122, if a Bison is observed on or near the highway.
