HAMILTON — Simcoe County cash crop, forages and flower farmer Keith Currie was elected to his fourth one-year term as president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Ontario’s largest farm organization with more than 37,000-member families.
He beat Northern Ontario dairy farmer Peggy Brekveld, who stays on as a vice-president. Currie received 132 votes to Brekveld’s 98 votes.
Other executive members are:
Vice-president: Waterloo County cash crop and broiler chicken farmer Mark Reusser.
Executive member: Hamilton-area dairy farmer and cash crop farmer Drew Spoelstra.
Directors-at-large: Dashwood hog and crop farmer Teresa Van Raay and Collingwood beekeeper Hugh Simpson.
Western Ontario directors include:
Director, Zone 1 – Essex and Kent: Cash crop, hog, and egg farmer and abattoir and meat store owner Louis Roesch.
Director, Zone 3 – Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk: Burford dairy and cash crop farmer Larry Davis.
Director, Zone 4 – Elgin and Oxford: Journalist Melissa Schneider.
Director, Zone 6 – Lambton and Middlesex: Cash crop and beef farmer Crispin Colvin .
