LAS VEGAS — John Deere kicked off 2023 with a new technology that cuts the use of starter fertilizer by 60% during planting.
Dubbed ‘ExactShot,’ the system employs sensors and robots to place starter fertilizer precisely onto individual seeds at the moment they are planted — instead of applying a continuous flow of fertilizer on the seed row.
John Deere unveiled it at the Consumer Technology Association’s 2023 CES show in Las Vegas in January. The company says that ExactShot could save over 93 million gallons of starter fertilizer annually across the U.S. corn corp, saving farmers money and preventing wasted fertilizer from nourishing weeds or finding its way into waterways.
