Two of the biggest rural events of the year are planning to reopen this year. The Royal Winter Fair has announced it is planning to reopen its annual event in Toronto in November.
Plans are also going ahead for this year’s 103rd International Plowing Match and Rural Expo at the Lindsay Fairgrounds and neighbouring farms.
The plowing match and expo will be held Oct. 13-16 and will include traditional features such as the plowing competition, Queen of the Furrow competition and tented city and the RV park. The event will include modified designs to the RV park and tent city to respect health concerns due to COVID-19, said plowing match executive director Cathy Lasby.
Last year was only the third time that the plowing match was cancelled. It was first cancelled in 1918 due to the outbreak of the Spanish Flu. The plowing match was again cancelled during the Second World War. The 2022 IPM and rural expo will be held at Kemptville.
