SOUTH HURON — A motorist from London was seriously injured and charged with impaired driving Jan. 24 after crashing into the rear end of a loaded hay wagon being towed by a tractor east of Exeter.
The 49-year-old lone female driver was behind the wheel of a sport utility vehicle when it hit the wagon just after 6 p.m. on Thames Road at Elimville Line, according to Huron County OPP. The vehicle sustained significant damage, and the woman was transported to hospital. Police collected breath samples after she was treated for her injuries and say those samples tested over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
She was arrested but has since been released from custody. A Goderich court appearance is scheduled April 17. Meantime, the involved vehicle was impounded for 7 days and the driver’s licence of the accused was immediately suspended for 90 days.
No injuries to the tractor driver were reported.
