Hensall District Co-operative has purchased majority shares in a container shipping company and a minority share in a related logistics company.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary Hensall Global Logistics Inc., the co-operative has taken a majority interest in Overseas Forwarding Inc. (OCF) and a minority interest in Overseas Container Logistics Ltd. (OCL). Both companies operate out of Vancouver and other cities.
The acquisition was announced in June.
One of the largest non-financial cooperatives in Canada, the 6,000-member Hensall Co-op operates over 30 locations in Ontario and Manitoba.
Brad Chandler, CEO of Hensall Co-op, said that acquiring the two firms “will provide immediate growth and will also be a catalyst in further expanding the Hensall Global business.”
Founded in 1937, the Co-op also runs traditional agribusinesses more synonymous with turf than surf: Those concerns run from animal nutrition and crop services, to grain elevator operations — including the flagship Hensall, Ontario, location. There’s a fuel delivery business as well.
