By Donna Scott SPENCERVILLE Excitement was in the air in Spencerville on Sat. Nov. 22 as the members of Grenville County 4-H gathered to recognize their achievements this past year. Trophies, t-shirts, jackets, prints and plaques were handed out and money was raised for charity. Every member crossed the stage in recognition of his or her participation in clubs, including livestock, knitting, crafts, cooking, photography and Cloverbuds (an introductory club for pre-4-H aged children). Big winners of the night included: Laura Scott, who received the Leisa Hess Leadership Award; Cameron Halpenny, who received the Ladies Auxiliary/Royal Canadian Legion of Kemptville Award; Kirsten Bennet who received the Rotary Club of Kemptville Award and Ashley Connell received the Grenville Cattlemens Award. The evening was capped off with a fun, Movember-inspired moment. Two 4-H leaders, Harry Bennett and Randy Seguin, put their facial hair on the line. The leader who raised the most money was rewarded by shaving the others facial hair. While Harry Bennett remains bearded today, these two men raised over $400 for the Canadian Cancer Society. |
