GREEN VALLEY — A 69-year-old Glengarry County farmer died Sept. 6 when he was thrown from a tractor while hauling a load of hay on the road that afternoon.
According to police, the tractor’s front forks abruptly caught the pavement as Roger Leblanc drove the machine with a trailer loaded with large square bales along Concession Road 8. “He lost control of the tractor, and he was ejected … and then a bale of hay fell on him as he lay on the road,” OPP Constable Serge Duguay said.
The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m., near Green Valley in South Glengarry Township. Leblanc was pronounced dead after being transported to hospital.
Glengarry Federation of Agriculture President Duncan Ferguson, a neighbour, said the deceased was an active cash cropper.
Leblanc is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rita D’aoust, four children and their spouses, as well as nine grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled Sept. 22 and Sept. 23 at Glengarry Funeral Home in Alexandria, followed by a noon funeral mass and interment in Green Valley on the 23rd.
