BLUEVALE — The former chair of Ontario Pork received a $15,000 scholarship last month to look at risk management strategies implemented by successful farm businesses, agricultural industries and governments from around the globe.
Amy Cronin, 44, of Bluevale in Huron County, was one of four Canadians — and the only Ontario resident — to receive the scholarship from Nuffield Canada. Cronin’s scholarship is funded by Grain Farmers of Ontario.
The money covers the cost of travel and compensation for time away from work to travel the globe as part of her studies. Scholarship recipients must be able to travel for a minimum of 10 weeks, with a minimum of six consecutive weeks at one point, as part of a research project.
Nuffield scholarship applications are for those in mid-career and between the ages of 30 and 45. The deadline is usually the end of April. Visit www.nuffield.ca for more information.
Cronin and her husband Mike, own hog farms in Ontario, Iowa and Missouri, and were named Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers in 2015.
