ALFRED — The first principal of Collège d’Alfred, Marcel Paulhus, died in early September from post-surgery health complications. He was living in Alberta.
He was instrumental in the creation of the college that he would later serve as president. In 1980, he was appointed to the minister of agriculture’s committee reviewing the feasibility of a French-language ag college in Ontario.
Said former MPP Jean Poirier: “I remember Marcel as a person who tirelessly devoted himself to the difficult task of creating such an institution in a very short period of time and ensuring its success.”
Said area dairy farmer Alain Lavigne: “Marcel was the heart of the college.”
