31-year-old sustains non-life-threatening injuries
HENSALL — A 31-year-old farmer survived being run over by a tractor in a Huron County hayfield on the last day of May.
Police say he tried to hop onto the ladder of the moving tractor but slipped and fell under the tractor’s left rear wheel around 1:15 p.m. Another person was operating the machine at the time.
The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his chest and leg, according to Huron County OPP, though he was airlifted to hospital in London for treatment.
Police are no longer investigating the matter, and the Ministry of Labour told Farmers Forum that it has no jurisdiction “as the incident did not involve any paid workers on site.”
A published media photo of the scene, two km east of Hensall at Morrison Line Road, shows police cars in a field of cut hay with a John Deere tractor. The big green tractor is hooked up to a yellow forage wagon at the site.
