Egg Farmers of Ontario general manager Harry Pelissero wants to increase quota for its members, writes Jim Romahn on his Agri 007 online blog site. Romahn says Pelissero has emailed a secret memo that will allow the largest 100 quota holders to obtain more quota. The other 223 quota holders will be given enough quota to fill their barns to capacity. Romahn says farmers will be allowed to lease 735 birds at $7.30 per bird per year. If a farmer doesnt have room for the extra 735 birds, that quota would be available to those who have space, Romahn reports. “Pelissero says this proposal will meet approval from both the Ontario governments Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission and from the national chicken agency because it aims to fill Ontarios production rights and obligations,” writes Romahn.
