Big lies and monumental incompetence
Another big lie has been exposed.
I know, there has been so much misinformation from big lies to just monumental incompetence. We saw it with COVID. We learned that our governments lied or misled about the origin of COVID, how to treat COVID, the efficacy of the vaccine for COVID, the risk of the COVID vaccine, the efficacy of cloth masks, the need for lockdowns. Our governments mislead and lied on crucial matters of public safety,
So, what now? The latest big lie exposed is that a smash-face military battalion was necessary to beat the hell out of peaceful protestors in downtown Ottawa. Remember the Freedom Convoy that saw about 500 trucks and other vehicles, including farm tractors, converge on about eight streets in downtown Ottawa two years ago this month? Remember that? It was so dangerous we needed the Emergencies Act, automatic weapons, armoured vehicles, police officers on horseback and a battalion of military-dressed police officers to restore order. Yet the only conclusive illegal activity were parking infrations.
So, it was like waking up to sunshine after a week of rain to read that federal court judge Richard Mosely on January 23 agreed with the legal challenge by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and conclude that Justin Trudeau screwed up bigtime. The decision to proclaim a war-time military action and invoke The Emergencies Act on Feb. 14, 2022 was unreasonable and unconstitutional. In short, Trudeau acted more like a gangster and broke the law.
“The scope of the regulations was overbroad in so far as it captured people who simply wanted to join in the protest by standing on Parliament Hill carrying a placard,” wrote Justice Richard Mosley. “The decision to issue the proclamation does not bear the hallmarks of reasonableness – justification, transparency and intelligibility – and was not justified.” He added that the use of the Emergencies Act “led to infringement of Charter rights.”
But the federal government isn’t about to own up to its monumental misguided attack on its own citizens. No apologies here. It will appeal the judge’s decision, said Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, who has declared that, “the public safety of Canadians was under threat, our national security, which includes our national economic security, was under threat.”
What the hell is she talking about? When the Emergencies Act came down like a hammer, the Coutts, Alberta stand-off was over and the Ottawa protestors were only armed with cell phones, Canadian flags, placards and muffins. Where were they supposed to go to peacefully protest and make their voices heard? The liquor store?
Was national security threatened by bouncy castles for children and street corner barbecues offering free burgers and hot dogs? The running joke was that the homeless had never been better fed. Weekends turned into street dances. The intermittent honking ended after a court injunction was filed. There was a lot of hugging and cries of “freedom.”
Police guided obliging truckers into their parking spots. One lane on Wellington Street in front of Parliament Hill was dutifully left open to allow for emergency vehicles.
So, where was the threat? Was it from the festive music on Saturday nights or the outdoor church services on Sunday? It was her government that threatened public safety. They gave us two years of on-again off-again lockdowns, closed schools, churches and cancer treatment. And just who threatened our economy? She did. The Liberal government shut down the economy, destroyed businesses, threw people out of their jobs and wouldn’t let people go to a restaurant or travel. The Liberals were all in to illegally seize bank accounts and tarnish Canada’s international reputation for business. Does Freeland live in fantasy land?
Did she forget the public safety threat of baton-waving police gestapo wearing black helmets and body armour who pulled protestors from the crowd and beat them up with fists and the back-end of a rifle? They busted truck windows while Freeland and her boss were pointing fingers at fictitious white supremacists that were never found.
The judge was right to give the Liberal government a figuratively good swift kick in the keester.
Let’s recall what the Ontario Provincial Police Superintendent Patrick Morris, commander of the force’s Intelligence Bureau, reported back on February 22, 2022. He said there was no evidence that protestors were armed or dangerous. “It is not an ‘extremist’ movement, Morris said, later adding, “The lack of violent crime was shocking.”
The protest was like a winter food festival where everything was free.
Morris added: “I want to be clear on this. We produced no intelligence to indicate these individuals would be armed. There has been a lot of hyperbole around that.”
The entire federal government’s extraordinary impetuous face-smash illegal overreach has been exposed. The disgraceful position of our prime minister and his anything-you-say-sir ministers are guilty and their indefensible position points to a bigger problem.
Sometimes our federal government believes its own lies and sometimes it can’t differentiate between fact and fiction. We know this because it doesn’t know the difference between a man and a woman.
