GUELPH — Aimed at beef producers and featuring guest presentations, EastGen debuts its “Beef BULL-etin” webinar at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4th.
Special guest presenter for the evening is Dan Skeels from Anchor D Ranch, Rimbey, Alta. A fourth-generation farmer with 3,000 acres, Skeels and his wife, Karen, own a 600-head registered Simmental cow herd and recently added registered Charolais to the operation. At Anchor D they practice rotational grazing of hay fields and grow grazing corn to feed their cattle more efficiently and minimize workload and input costs. Skeels purchased his first registered Simmental female at the age of 10 and is a past National Board Member of the Canadian Simmental Association. He has earned numerous awards for his professional auctioneering skills, including 2004 World Livestock Auctioneer Champion and 2014 Canadian Livestock Auctioneer Masters Champion. In addition to sharing video highlights from his home operation, Skeels will speak about the beef industry, present and future, from his perspective as a cow-calf producer, purebred genetics marketer, and auctioneer.
An explanation of EastGen’s beef program, which is focused on serving the needs of customers, will be included in the Beef BULL-etin, in combination with a presentation from Semex’s Beef Marketing Manager, Brad Gilchrist. Gilchrist will highlight the scope of Semex’s beef program and sire line-up, including a look at Semex’s new release genetics. No stranger to the beef world, he has an excellent real-life understanding of a wide variety of topics critical to the beef industry including breed pedigrees, EPDs, genomics, defects, policies, and a mindset to ensure customers can produce profitable cattle. Passionate about the beef industry, he’s a beef judge who has officiated at all levels within Canada, and he’s shown beef competitively for the past 21 years.
“The EastGen Beef BULL-etin will be an interesting opportunity for cattlemen to gain valuable insight into their industry. We are very excited about the presentations that we have for the event,” said EastGen General Manager Brian O’Connor.
