LINDSAY — The third time was the charm for Cally Finley at the 2017 East-Central 4-H Championship show at Lindsay on Sept. 20.
She was named reserve grand showperson twice before. This time, the 17-year-old from Far-Row Holsteins at Woodville, was named grand champion showperson.
She said her calf, Far-Row Chap LA, was acting up during the class judging. So she took the calf on a long walk and fed her plenty of water to calm her down.
“When she is as full as can be with water and hay, that’s when she’s most happy,” said Cally. “When I was walking her (during the championships), she was just floating, and I just knew that she was going to work with me and it was going to be a good moment for us.”
This year’s victory ranks as one of Cally’s highlights. She was tops for intermediate showmanship class at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair a year ago, but this year’s win is a close second, she said.
Here is a list of winners from the show.
