KEMPTVILLE — A Jan. 30 early-morning fire tore through a machinery shed and the equipment inside, causing $250,000 in damage to the Kemptville-area property.
The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. and gutted the equipment shed, destroying the tractors inside.
A passerby called in the fire at Lawrence Sloan’s farm just north of Kemptville on Donnelly Road. Firefighters were on scene by 7:50 a.m., and the fire was under control within 40 minutes.
According to a neighbour, Sloan is a retired dairy farmer and still has some animals in the barn adjacent to the machine shed. No animals were harmed. The fire was likely caused by a tractor’s block heater, Ottawa Fire Service said.
