Eastern Ontario home to top BCA Holstein, Ayrshire, Milking Shorthorn herds

BLOOMFIELD — Four of the top five Ontario Holstein herds for BCA last year were in Eastern Ontario.

According to Lactanet (formerly CanWest DHI), the top Holstein herd for BCA (which measures milk, fat and protein) was Koopycrest Holsteins, owned by Shawn Koopmans in Prince Edward County, with a score of 333.3.

Gouldhaven Farms, owned by Barry Gould at Renfrew, was third with a score of 325.7; Glen Haven Farms, owned by Tom MacGregor at Dundas, was fourth with a score of 321.3; and Ontario Inc. 1024248, owned by Andy Senn at Prescott County, was fifth with a score of 318.7.

Eastern Ontario was also home to the top BCA for Ayrshire and Milking Shorthorn herds. Tilecroft Farms, owned by Eleanor and Jeff Robinson in Carleton County, was tops for Ayrshire with an average score of 272.3, while Lynmark, owned by Tim Shearer in Peterborough County, had the highest BCA average for Milking Shorthorn with 268.3.
