MAXVILLE — This year’s winner of the Maxville Holstein Show will have its embryos flushed for the Japanese dairy market.
Jeanlu Stanleycup Alexis took top marks at the June 22 show at the Maxville Holstein Show. The cow, owned by Signature Holsteins at Morrisburg, had already been a strong contender, said owner Mike Farlinger. “She’d done well for us in the past: She was top four at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair twice, and was nominated All-Canadian.”
The cow’s part of a premium family, Farlinger said, bought three years ago from Blondin Farms in Quebec to be a show cow and a breeder cow. Her distinctively Holstein traits stood out immediately: “Size, strength and a near-perfect udder,” he said.
Despite her being a breeding cow, Farlinger isn’t planning on breeding her at the moment. With strong demand from the Japanese dairy market for her embryos, Farlinger planned to flush her until the winter and send the embryos overseas.
