Connor Halpenny, whose parents run Penny Lane Holsteins at Merrickville-Wolford in Grenville County, won his showmanship class and finished eighth out of 150 competitors at the European Young Breeders School, held in Belgium from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2. Competitors — aged 13 to 25 from 15 countries, including Canada, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Poland and Denmark — were judged on showmanship, clipping abilities, two quizzes and judging. Halpenny, who was also named top showperson at the EastGen Challenge in Spencerville last year, was one of six Canadians to make the trek to Belguim.
