PEMBROKE — A Renfrew County dairy farmer appeared in court last month to answer to animal cruelty charges.
The man was charged with two counts of animal cruelty after an incident in February at a Pembroke-area dairy farm. A cow was struck multiple times with an ice chopper.
According to the OSPCA, a cow kicked out at milking time and was then kicked multiple times in the stomach. The cow was also struck several times in the leg with an ice chopper, and then again in the same spot after it kicked out again.
None of these allegations have been tested in court.
A report led to an OSPCA investigation, and the organization visited the farm on Feb. 7. The farmer appeared in the Pembroke Court of Justice on June 20. He is due to appear in court again on July 17.
